Project Partners

The project was developed by Glooscap First Nation and SWEB Development, a Nova Scotia-based renewable energy developer and operator, in response to the the Rate Base Procurement. If awarded in the most current procurement called Green Choice Program the project will be developed, owned and operated by SWEB and one or more First Nation communities that will be disclosed in the coming months  

               

Glooscap First Nation 

Glooscap First Nation (“GFN”) is located halfway between the towns of Wolfville and Windsor, not far from Blomidon Provincial Park, the ancestral home of Glooscap. While the community of Glooscap was founded in 1984, Mi'kmaq people have lived and traveled these lands for thousands of years. This area was an important hunting ground for our ancestors, who traveled along the natural river systems. The mission of GFN is to maintain a sustainable community through its people, for its people.

The vision of GFN is to strive towards a well-balanced community living according to the seven sacred teachings, committed to the next generations as we work in unity to become a forward thinking, self-sustaining community. The members of GFN honor our past and look towards our future. GFN is a proud First Nation community that strives to make connections with the world around us. GFN is holding a majority in the wind energy project.

Weavers Mountain Wind Energy Project

Glooscap First Nation in partnership with SWEB Energy was recently awarded a 94.4 MW Wind Energy Project under the Rate Base Procurement (RBP) called the Weavers Mountain Wind Energy Project. The RBP was a previous procurement of renewable energy from the Province of Nova Scotia to procure 1,100 MWh of renewable electricity. SWEB is currently working with Glooscap First Nations towards engaging stakeholders, permitting, due diligence and construction.

SWEB Energy is a team of renewable energy professionals who are passionate about community, the environment, and shared social values. As of 2023 our team has developed, commissioned and is currently operating 68 MW of community-based wind energy projects throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick with another 94.4 MW wind energy project that will be built together with Glooscap First Nation in Pictou County.

All of our projects are owned in partnership with First Nation communities or local communities. SWEB is the Canadian subsidiary of W.E.B, an Austrian, community-owned energy transition company with almost 30 years of experience in planning, financing, constructing and operating renewable energy projects in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, France, Canada, and the United States. As of 2023 W.E.B operates a total of 266 wind energy, 43 photovoltaic, and 3 small hydroelectric power plants throughout Europe and North America. The projects have a total nominal output of 613 MW and an annual production of 1,532,302 MWh which enables W.E.B to provide 437,800 households with renewable electricity.
